I didn't think Lana Del Rey would ever surpass her grunge-rock sound from "Ultraviolence," yet here we are. Though she is one of the most consistent artists of the past decade in churning out exceptional music, "Ultraviolence" always seemed like her magnum opus. In comes wiz producer Jack Antonoff, and suddenly "Norman **** Rockwell," despite its wacky cover art and even wackier title, skyrockets as Del Rey's best work. Antonoff certainly deserves a lot of credit, but it's not like he is the sole artist here. His work on "Norman **** Rockwell" is better than any other work he's collaborated on (including his work with Lorde and Taylor Swift), and that's because his subject is a woman who never settles for less. The lyrics on this album are as powerful, sarcastic, and biting as they'll ever be, especially when the opening line is, "God damn man child, you **** me so good that I almost said 'I love you.'" And the blend of piano ballad and soft, nearly psychedelic rock is indescribably beautiful. The title track paints a picture of a sunlit harbor with its majestic brass sound, while the 9-minute long and bold "Venice **** introduces a unique 70s rock vibe reminiscent of "Crimson and Clover" (while blatantly name-dropping the song as well). The cover of Sublime's "Doin' Time" gives us a quick break to groove before going back into the softer yet still addicting material about Lana's favorite themes: Americana, failed relationships, and hope for the future.

Un completo fracaso este álbum, extraño los tiempos en los que su música era realmente buena como en born to die o el mismísimo lust for life. Aquí todas las canciones dan sueño haciéndole honor a su nombre, cerotana del sueño. Lo único salvable es Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me, but I have it.

The avoidance of using computers to make the instruments isn't something found often anymore, but it feels more ethereal and authentic. Verdadeiro álbum do ano, Lana Del Rey fez toda a crítica que massacrou a própria no seu álbum debut, aclamar e deitar pro seu incrível trabalho que é o NFR. Estamos diante de uma das melhores compositoras da nossa geração.

This is the best Lana’s album so far. The production, her lyrics, the instruments and her voice are implacable.

With this album Lana has shown how much she has grown on her music. Norman **** Rockwell is a masterpiece in every way; the instrumentals are beautiful, the lyrics are a mix of melancholy and sweetness, and Lana`s voice it`s so clear and angelical.

NFR is really Lana's best album to date and a record that shows her full artistic potential.
With the beautiful and poetic lyrics, great minimalistic production headed by talented Jack Antonoff and the outstanding old-fashioned atmosphere, NFR is the best album of 2019. and one of the greatest album of the past decade!

This album is a more than an hour long journey through the Lana's love life, but also through the lost times of the greatest moments of America. This is "The Next Best American Record" that should be listened in the summertime "California" at some "Mariners Apartment Complex" and then you will feel as "The Greatest" person alive.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Composed perfectly and beautiful without flaw, Lana Del Rey and Jack Antoff have out done themselves. With the start having fun and faster paced songs compared to the rest of them album it slows down perfectly in the perfect love balled that gives a well fit “end of summer” vibe (the album was released around the end of summer). The singer opens up and shares intimate feelings, allowing us to relate and love the album more. Expand

Things inevitably drift, but beneath the surface in the best songs there is a toughness and a newfound resilience.

It's a remarkably sharp pop record that retains her fascination with pop-culture iconography and the rosey simplicity of a post-war America where classic rock and blue jeans ruled and takes them to much deeper places. ... Think of it as an hour-long car ride peeling down the highway with classic rock blaring out of the radio and no real destination in mind other than where your impulsive nature might take you.

A thematically rich record, heavy on mood and elegantly written in a way that positions Del Rey between Eve Babitz and Carole King. There are beguiling and evolving melodies underneath the spare piano and acoustic arrangements. [Nov 2019, p.24]
