Lizzy Grant makes pretty much the same album for the third time, but adds extra cuss words because, um, that means artistic progression? I'd wait for the drugs to finally wear off, but it's all an act, people, and it's so stagnant I can smell it through the screen.

Unbelievable production quality. This album builds cohesion and integrity through peaceful, calm atmosphere that breath through very well-thought and thorough lyrics. Although she employs trite instrumentals to set the atmosphere for the messages she want to imply, she surprises with unpredicted and new ways to redirect the melodies she presents. Mess

Norman Rockwell himself illustrated idyllic images of American life and its history, spending 50 years with the Americana propagandists at the weekly Saturday Evening Post. His best-known works used a wondrous narrative style to center comfort and simplicity: A pastoral idea, painted and personified, of the American Dream. Lana neatly cuts through that outmoded fantasy with an emphatic **** hyphen mark of irreverence, or enthusiasm, or both. As Lana revives American myths, with an empty deadpan that would make Lou Reed proud, she also exposes them. The album is a masterclass in understatement. Every song is infused with so much melody, much of it in Del Rey's vocal lines. Her voice and lyrics are the star role here but these are backed by immaculately produced arrangements. The singles all come early in the album and while the tempo drops as the album progresses, the quality doesn't drop at all. The dreamy, druggy mood created by sounds and lyrics is something else. I'll definitely be checking out her other albums based on this. Expand

A magic album, with so many good songs in Lana Del Rey's style, that is trying to get into a more bright pop, at the same time that she uses her typical sadness on lyrics and melodies. The production is so perfect and literally makes you emotive when you listen to some music like 'how to disappear'. Too much unique and beautiful project, that gives us exactly what we wanted from Lana.A magic album, with so many good songs in Lana Del Rey's style, that is trying to get into a more bright pop, at the same time that she uses her typical sadness on lyrics and melodies. I didn't think Lana Del Rey would ever surpass her grunge-rock sound from "Ultraviolence," yet here we are. Though she is one of the most consistent artists of the past decade in churning out exceptional music, "Ultraviolence" always seemed like her magnum opus. In comes wiz producer Jack Antonoff, and suddenly "Norman **** Rockwell," despite its wacky cover art and even wackier title, skyrockets as Del Rey's best work. Antonoff certainly deserves a lot of credit, but it's not like he is the sole artist here. His work on "Norman **** Rockwell" is better than any other work he's collaborated on (including his work with Lorde and Taylor Swift), and that's because his subject is a woman who never settles for less. The lyrics on this album are as powerful, sarcastic, and biting as they'll ever be, especially when the opening line is, "God damn man child, you **** me so good that I almost said 'I love you.'" And the blend of piano ballad and soft, nearly psychedelic rock is indescribably beautiful. The title track paints a picture of a sunlit harbor with its majestic brass sound, while the 9-minute long and bold "Venice **** introduces a unique 70s rock vibe reminiscent of "Crimson and Clover" (while blatantly name-dropping the song as well). The cover of Sublime's "Doin' Time" gives us a quick break to groove before going back into the softer yet still addicting material about Lana's favorite themes: Americana, failed relationships, and hope for the future.

Lana del Rey was release an great album. Some tracks how 'The Greatest' and 'Ciannamon Girl' sounds so good, with her vocal and instruments. 'Venice B*tch' and 'Mariners Apartment Complex' looks like a rock band of 80's/90's, a little bit Red Hot style. It's a good job.

Things inevitably drift, but beneath the surface in the best songs there is a toughness and a newfound resilience.

It's a remarkably sharp pop record that retains her fascination with pop-culture iconography and the rosey simplicity of a post-war America where classic rock and blue jeans ruled and takes them to much deeper places. ... Think of it as an hour-long car ride peeling down the highway with classic rock blaring out of the radio and no real destination in mind other than where your impulsive nature might take you.

A thematically rich record, heavy on mood and elegantly written in a way that positions Del Rey between Eve Babitz and Carole King. There are beguiling and evolving melodies underneath the spare piano and acoustic arrangements. [Nov 2019, p.24]
