An enlightening journey through the mind of an outsider, but an entirely relatable one.

In such a hugely enjoyable and compelling set, the weaker moments are few and far between.

Despite Furman’s own insecurities and wanderlust, Perpetual Motion People sounds like home.

If you're willing to get on board with Ezra Furman and the beautifully messy world that he celebrates here, Perpetual Motion People is a ride worth taking.

He may like his disguises and perhaps enjoys provoking his audiences but underneath the image and the keen ear for wordplay a really quite serious songwriting talent is very determinedly making himself heard.

Driven, hooky, moving. Better than Prozac or a sunny day. [Aug 2015, p.88]

This is a messy, disorderly but beautifully blissful and idiosyncratic record--and that seems like the statement he’d like to make.

Perpetual Motion People confirms Furman as no mere white male navel-gazer, but flammable phosphorus.

Perpetual Motion People is the restless sound of a genuine one-off in a generic world.

His sax-heavy third solo album blows its own horn. [Aug 2015, p.75]

Furman's collage approach and his Joanthan Richman-styled variations are charming, full with both life and with tunes. [Aug 2015, p.106]

A little scattered and with occasionally mediocre lyrics, it congeals into a fun, extremely varied, and repeatedly listenable album.

Perpetual Motion People is an album that makes you root for him to pull through.

It’s dazzling, dizzying and yes quite exhausting, to the point where the only thing you can pin down with any certainty is that Furman has undeniable talent.

While he's deeply indebted to traditional sounds and familiar structures, he comes alive most when he's sewing fissures into the forms he knows so well.

Perpetual Motion People is about change, action, and metamorphosis.

Nearly perfect album. All kinds of influences and sounds, incredible talent. Third album with the boy-friends and the most joyful albumNearly perfect album. All kinds of influences and sounds, incredible talent. Third album with the boy-friends and the most joyful album they've made. There are emotional ballads (Ordinary Life, Hour of Deepest Need) and raucous rollicking punk and rock 'n' roll songs (Restless Year, Tip of a Match) and then a huge amount of doo-woop influence too (Lousy Connection, Haunted Head, Pot Holes)... really an incredible feat.
