  1. For all the angst, Raise the Dead is ultimately uplifting.

The moodiest moments are what ultimately make this album Phantom Planet's best. [May 2008, p.140]
  3. Even with a few stumbles, Raise the Dead is among Phantom Planet's most enjoyable albums.
  4. Jumping from Bowie glam to disco punk, the band tosses in synths, arch backing coos and riffing saxes for songs that are both expansive and strange.

Raise the Dead works best when power takes a backseat to pop. [May 2008, p.106]
  6. There are just as many promising set-ups on Raise the Dead as there are muddled conclusions, which I suppose is what ultimately makes for such a frustrating listening experience.

The guitar rock here is loud, taut, buoyant--but stands little chance of getting inside your head.

The lyrics and singing encapsulate the feel of their self titled while the music is a throw back to the folky pop that made The Guest and Phantom Planet is Missing such a welcome departure. Great album by a great & fun band. I didn't like how "California" made them have a stupid label for just that song. When i heard Great album by a great & fun band. I didn't like how "California" made them have a stupid label for just that song. When i heard "Phantom Planet", it was just fun and i just liked it from beginning to end. "Raise the Dead" is just as good as "Phantom Planet." My favorites songs that i just can't stop listening to are: "Raise the Dead" "Quarantine" "Ship Lost At Sea" "Demon Daughters" (love the bass in this one) "Geronimo" "Confess". Expand

Easily their best yet, they've found a good balance between the overly poppy The Guest and the forced garage rock of their self-titled album.
