Packing 14 tracks into 38 minutes, it's very much a sprint, the breathlessness part of its impact, despite this intensity, mainman Jack McEwan steers SHYGA!... clear of excess and keeps his ear on melody throughout. [Apr 2021, p.34]

Distinguished by its wide eyed, maddeningly flamboyant mélange of ideas, these Perth psychonauts’ latest is so potent you risk getting tinnitus and/or a contact high from each monolithic twist and turn.

Exuberant throughout, PPC's trip has notched up a gear. [Mar 2021, p.84]

With the high energy psychedelic haze that metamorphosises around anything this band touch, their exploration of complexities forever surprise.

The galloping “Mango Terrarium” and freakout closer “The Tales of Gurney Gridman” both stick around a bit too long, however, when SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound wraps up, fans of driving psychedelic rock will be sporting a permagrin from consuming this newest dose of the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets.

Unperturbed by overkill, the anthemic choral hooks and supercharged production values deliver a thrilling spectacle, even if the band are yet to realise their inflated ambitions.

SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound is great fun if you don’t think about it too much. It uses some brilliant inspiration taken from '60s psych and prog rock and even some hints of '90s grunge. However, it’s difficult to not take notice of the sameness featured throughout the record that makes it that little bit duller than it could have potentially been.

The first half of SHYGA! contains most of the sharper hits, while the guitars on the second half are allowed to roam looser and longer.
