  1. Silence Is Wild is a solid step forward for Frida Hyvönen and a record to check out if you like singer/songwriters with a unique approach to be singing and songwriting.
  2. It feels like she’s made no effort to censor herself musically or lyrically, and that naked honesty makes this disc stand out strikingly.
  3. In the past, Hyvönen’s songs worked as intellectual touchstones, but not necessarily always as songs. It’s the triumph of her new record that these two essential elements of her songwriting have been more or less reconciled.
  4. Silence Is Wild is heart wrenching, brutally honest and, at times, difficult to listen to. It is also forceful, confident and mature.
  5. Mojo
    80
Silence is not an option when Hyvonen is this witty and brazen. [Mar 2009, p.115]
  6. Piano playing songwriter straight out of a ‘70s dinner party.
  7. Frida's a modern woman with her own sound and fury, and Silence breaks it open.
  8. Her follow-up, Silence Is Wild, sounds not only more assured in its arrangements and performances, but more lively for being so self-indulgent.
  9. Under The Radar
    70
Silence Is Wild is a unique pleasure and Hyvonen is a definite artist to watch. [Fall 2008, p.76]
  10. Q Magazine
    60
Silence Is Wild may be willfully idiosyncratic and prone to self-indulgence, but it's also refreshingly imaginative, sexually upfront and impossible to second guess. [Mar 2009, p.101]
  11. By now, Frida’s come so far from where she started, you will have been won over, and it’s possible to see the early schmaltz as a necessary counterpoint: a musical analogue of the innocence to be lost, and/or transformed into experience.
