Silence Is Wild is a solid step forward for Frida Hyvönen and a record to check out if you like singer/songwriters with a unique approach to be singing and songwriting.
-
It feels like she’s made no effort to censor herself musically or lyrically, and that naked honesty makes this disc stand out strikingly.
-
In the past, Hyvönen’s songs worked as intellectual touchstones, but not necessarily always as songs. It’s the triumph of her new record that these two essential elements of her songwriting have been more or less reconciled.
-
Silence Is Wild is heart wrenching, brutally honest and, at times, difficult to listen to. It is also forceful, confident and mature.
-
MojoSilence is not an option when Hyvonen is this witty and brazen. [Mar 2009, p.115]
-
Piano playing songwriter straight out of a ‘70s dinner party.
-
Frida's a modern woman with her own sound and fury, and Silence breaks it open.
-
Her follow-up, Silence Is Wild, sounds not only more assured in its arrangements and performances, but more lively for being so self-indulgent.

Under The RadarSilence Is Wild is a unique pleasure and Hyvonen is a definite artist to watch. [Fall 2008, p.76]
