  1. As you've come to expect, a small amount of the material sounds utterly fantastic and there's a solid chunk that's barely audible, but whether it's delivered with a coating of fuzz or a liberal gloss of studio sheen, Pollard's gumdrop melodies and fantastical lyrical phrasing keep us coming back for more.
  2. Suitcase 2 is a necessity for the hardcore Guided by Voices fan.
  3. Pollard’s imagistic lyrics and ragged musicality create a bridge between the mundane and the exceptional.
  4. The amazing thing is not that there are still so many unreleased tunes in the solo Pollard/ GBV vaults, but how engaging this stuff is despite fidelity that at times is atrocious.
  5. The box is scattered, as expected, but the songs collected go a long way to indicate that, contrary to popular belief, Pollard has a measure of control over his songwriting.
  6. Suitcase 2 does exactly what it sets out to do, documenting the incredible breadth of Bob Pollard’s songwriting.
  7. While it's often an absorbing listen, it's hard to fathom this appealing to anyone but the terminally obsessed.
  8. Uncut

A fascinating document... Only select morsels, though... will make your GBV mix tape. [Jan 2006, p.120]

    Best savoured as a whole, a magical mystery of Pollard's pop-obsessed, haphazardly-filed subconscious. [Feb 2006, p.107]

If you're not a rabid fan... these too-coy-for-comfort exercises in lo-fi songcraft will likely leave you mulling the differences between profundity and fecundity. [11 Nov 2005, p.68]
