The band does loud and lurching as well they do as caustic and drifting, but catharsis never quite comes--the singers just manage to keep each other in check.

This brisk, well-crafted follow-up maintains the feeling if a pop band masquerading as something harder. [Mar 2012, p.102]

Ultimately, from start to finish, you know what you've ordered: proficient, precision-executed blues-rock with few genuine surprises.

Their second album finds them full of anthemic swagger and brio. [Mar 2012, p. 97]

An album worthy of repeated listens but limited by its inability to adapt and enrapture a change of pace often just representing a drop in quality.

It's pleasant enough ... but somehow lacks the cutting edge.

It's all entirely listenable, if not what you might expect.

The album, at its heart, is noisy and self-assured blues-rock with sweeter (read: softer) pop elements dotting the landscape. [Mar 2012, p.83]

Sweet Sour downshifts something ridiculous, slow and a little disappointing for a little too long (especially for fans of 2009 debut Baby Darling Doll Face Honey), because holy crap, did it melt faces ever so well for a little while.

    Completely mediocre.

Sledgehammer riff-filled rock doesn't need to be clever, but it sure as heck needs to sound like it's driven by full-pelt, carnage-causing energy. And that's where Band Of Skulls' second effort falls short.

Band of Skulls has gained popularity mainly due to their indie rock "Friends", which is included on the soundtrack for the movie Twilight.Band of Skulls has gained popularity mainly due to their indie rock "Friends", which is included on the soundtrack for the movie Twilight. Like the aforementioned song, the latest LP - "Sour Sweet" greets us with stirring title track - which admittedly great introduces in climate of the album. Each composition is component of diverse, constantly changing arrangements - for ex. dark "Wanderluster" - with distinctive role of the guitar, punk "You're Not Pretty But You Got It Goin On" or swinging and lethargic "Close To Nowhere".
