    Sweetener is definitely on another level compared to past records when it comes to the personal sphere. For the first time, Grande contributes to the writing of all the lyrics of a record by her, adding a well-marked and refined sentimental note, which was decidedly less evident in previous albums. The themes told on the disc are certainly more mature and developed than the previous ones: healing, recovery, self-empowerment, self-confidence, true love, hope and love for life. Furthermore, for the first time in Grande's discography, the presence of a deeply felt artistic concept is strong, centered on the sweetness of life, spiritual serenity, hope, grief and dreams.
    However, Ariana Grande does not abandon her role as a pop star: international hits such as God Is A Woman and No Tears Left To Cry perfectly convey the idea of ​​an independent woman and exquisitely reconcile the commercial imprint with the personal one, which is not easy.
    Sweetener's sound manages to be as cohesive as that of Dangerous Woman, but the styles explored are decidedly different: Grande engages very well in elements of house, funk, neo soul, hip hop, trap and disco, while maintaining a solid pop and R&B base.
    However, Sweetener is not an album without flaws: despite her almost perfect performance, her collaborations with Williams, Minaj and Elliott turn out to be decidedly weaker tracks than expected, despite managing to maintain a more than sufficient quality level.
    Overall, Sweetener is an excellent album from every point of view, despite some exceptions. The personal intimacy and lyrical maturity and freedom enjoyed by Grande is perhaps what makes Sweetener the best record in the singer's discography, along with Grande's versatility in being able to excel in new and unexplored musical styles in an accurate and meticulous way.     When this album first came out, I hated it. I found it mediocre and full of fillers, but, my gosh, it aged like the finest of wine. I love how simple yet funny and catchy the production is, and Ariana's voice just adds the perfect touch. I don't know if it already is, but this album is gonna be timeless.     I love how when it got released the fans hated it, but it aged like a FINE WINE. hopefully in the future it could undoubtedly present itself as her best and most acclaimed album, similar to mariah’s butterfly.
    This album works so perfectly because that state of mind + aesthetics + working with 3 types of different production teams (max martin, pharrell and her rnb/trap friends) results in    I love how when it got released the fans hated it, but it aged like a FINE WINE. hopefully in the future it could undoubtedly present itself as her best and most acclaimed album, similar to mariah’s butterfly.
    This album works so perfectly because that state of mind + aesthetics + working with 3 types of different production teams (max martin, pharrell and her rnb/trap friends) results in a complex body of work where the songs bounce off of each other. For me, the latter group did a much better work on TUN, or alternatively they got overshadowed by max’s legendary pop melodies and pharrell’s super experimental and unique style this round - but that as it may, they still delivered fan classics. Other than TLIC, every song can be rated as a 10 (well, maybe that name drop song too). The singles are perfection, one by one, but what made me fall over heels for ariana’s best album is the dreamy REM, the impeccable get well soon, and the 4 super fan girls: blazed (if u don’t like it don’t even talk to me), sweetener, successful and borderline. But don’t take it for me, just listen. If u get it, u get it. If you don’t… my everything is right there smh.

The album is therapeutic to listen to, but everything that Sweetener failed to do was picked up and improved by her following album, “thank u, next.” The album itself was very messy formatting-wise. There are plenty of pop-bops (breathin, god is a woman, and goodnight n go. the latter is a “sweetened” ode to the ever-impactful Imogen Heap) but a lot of abstract, weirder songs that honestly take the cake for me. I think my ability to appreciate the more abstract, funky pop tracks such as sweetener, successful, and get well soon really raised the album’s rating. Sweetener’s biggest loss is its lyrics, which are plain and shallow. Additionally, the album was very positive and held an optimistic outlook; while this is likely intentional (hence the album title), I would have also seen Sweetener’s sour side.… Expand

    This album sounds like Pharrell's the owner, there's authenticity's lack in so many tracks. I wonder how 'no tears left to cry', 'God is a woman' and R.E.M (one of the best songs of her career) can divide the same space in a such bad album as sweetener. She lost her time featuring with big artists in a shameful and poor production. She could do more. This album is completely forgetable.

'Sweetener' is sometimes clumsy : sweetener is a song 'all in one', some songs are really different than the concept of the album like 'breathin' and 'God is a woman', so much love these songs, but Ariana should have been like 'don't care about commercial'. This album is still a very good project !

    This album is so relaxing and smooth. If we take a look at Ariana's 3 album before sweetener, I think sweetener is really different from them. Ariana seems to trying new things in this album. She succeeded this maybe. My all-time favorite songs from her is in this album but there are a few songs also I don't like at all. But generally it's worth to listen.

    Favorite album yet by her!! she experimented so much with her sound and pharrell definitely was the producer she needed to help her get out of her shell. Going from pop anthems like "No tears left to cry" "God is a woman" "breathin" "everytime" to dreamy mid-tempo songs "get well soon" "better off" "r.e.m" to the sultry 2000s r&b inspired banger "borderline"

    We can definetly say that this is her most experimental album, it is also her first album that is actually personal. There are 3 skips but the other songs are amazing! My favorites are R.E.M, God Is A Woman, Breathin, Better off, Goodnight N Go and Get Well Soon.

    Her most healing era it was. Songs like no tears left to cry, everytime, goodnight n go, are masterpieces. My overall score is a 9, because songs like blazed, borderline or pete davidson are not as strong contenders as the other songs on the album imo. Overall I love this album, it will always have a special place in my heart

    Sweetener it's definitely not only one of the best releases this year (the best at pop), but it is also an incredible work of art from Ariana, this is the album where she goes from a international superstar to an artist, an icon, and of course just proves once again that we will have more Ariana Grande for many more years.

    Ariana’s 4th album is a completely different way of past work, dangerous woman, a more soft and r&b vibe is the description of sweetener. The vocals are incredible nice in this record, however sometimes it gets a little boring and repetitive, but just in a few tracks, talks in a whole work, sweetener is a great album.

    Sweetener, Ariana Grande’s fourth studio release, was a major disappointment. Coming after “Dangerous Woman” (which I couldn’t quite give a good review but I loved many of its songs), I was hoping for something more like that (wonderful, upbeat, unique pop). Instead, I got generic drum beats and bass patterns on a good number of tracks and over-processed material across the board. In all, there are probably only three-ish songs from Sweetener that I would listen to again. A lot of the music was annoyingly similar in regards to percussive instruments, but I will give to it that some of the synth layering (and Ari’s voice when she isn’t overdoing it on autotune) is very impressive in its complexion. I was also fairly annoyed by almost every track being marked as explicit (especially as a lot of the labels were “false positives”), as then I was unable to see what was coming in terms of content within the song, which was also a bummer. I wish I could give my entire song to song commentary, as that would help people understand my ratings better, but I cannot because of the character limit. All in all, not a huge fan of Sweetener. I suppose there were some good songs hidden in here (the “three in a row” was nice), but overall there isn’t much in here that I was hoping for. I guess this means I will have to lower my expectations a bit for the next (see what I did there?) album, despite already anticipating an uneven work. If you are a fan of generic pop/trap music from five years ago, you’ll probably like this album. If you were hoping for a decent sequel to Dangerous Woman, you will be disappointed, as I was. All I can say is, I sure hope that “thank you, next” is a heck of a lot better than this misfire. Highlights: raindrops, breathin, no tears left to cry, and borderline.    … Expand

    lets be honest, most of the tracks sounds boring and flat, but when she wants drop us real songs she does! R.E.M, god is a woman, breathin, everytime, no tears left to cry, goodnight n go and get well soon its on top! but unffortnely i dont like the rest of the album. (7/10)

    I'm just a music lover, I hardly follow the release of albums by the great artists, but the sweetener was a big surprise for me, unfortunately I couldn't hear it at the time of the release and I found out through a very dear person, and it's amazing how music can touch our soul in such a beautiful way, 2020 was a year of many emotions, and the sweetener made these last months much happier,I'm just a music lover, I hardly follow the release of albums by the great artists, but the sweetener was a big surprise for me, unfortunately I couldn't hear it at the time of the release and I found out through a very dear person, and it's amazing how music can touch our soul in such a beautiful way, 2020 was a year of many emotions, and the sweetener made these last months much happier, I fell in love, I suffered for love, I reflected on my life with this album, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who made this album happen, I love it with all my heart.… Expand

    Grande’s new sound, the Williams-produced Not-Bangers, only make up half of the album. These standout tracks are interspersed between standard pop tracks. ... That’s not to say that the Bangers on Sweetener are bad--it’s more that they belong in previous era of Grande and they spoil the flow between songs. Sweetener may not be the dawning of a new age for Ariana but it could be a step towards somewhere weird and wonderful.

While a few guest vocalists (Mr. Williams, Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott) provide a little grit for contrast, Ms. Grande sails above any fray, past or present. Her aplomb is her triumph.
