Mary's revelatory, palpable desire and seemingly newfound strength permeate all of The Brink, leaving you with an impression of the Jezabels as a band that's (in spirit) one part singer/songwriter, one part stadium rock god, and, ultimately, all woman.

The electro-pop melodies are as stellar as they were on Prisoner, but the backdrops are more graceful and subdued, more elegant, and less exuberant. [Feb/Mar 2014, p.72]

The Brink is less immediate than all of the band's prior releases and is indeed a grower when given time to settle.

Great bands are not followers and while I'm not sure if I would consider them great at this time, they are progressing to that point. They are extremely impressive live and it's always a pleasure to see them.
