This is an incredible album! In this piece of art we see a real Katy Perry, a Katy who changed herself and her KatyCats, a Katy who is 100% real, we see a Pop Star inside, we see (and listen) art, just that: A-R-T. The Katy's best album.

The worst album of Katy Perry's career. It is disappointing an album that begins with a slight footprint in the title track, witness, go falling while listening to the others. The generic instruments and lack of concept in the album make anyone give up listening to it until the end. I'm shocked that people are giving this heap of steaming dog crap 10 stars reviews. I suspect that most of them are teenage Katy Perry stalker fans because this album is embarrassingly bad, especially after the way it was hyped up. I'm still confused as to why any artist would make a grandiose announcement claiming that they will be releasing purposeful music, and then come out with a song like "Bon Appetit". Seriously? I can't even listen to the whole song because my head hurts from face-palming so much. Personally, I barely made it through this album. I found the songs to be, for the most part, boring, and the lyrics nothing short of cringe-worthy. I honestly feel like a middle school student could write better lyrics, and that's just sad knowing that there was an entire team of people working on this album. I think there was 1 song that didn't make me want to jump out of a window: Into Me You See. The rest seems over-produced and I agree with other reviewers who said it doesn't seem like Katy believes the words she is singing. I'm glad I didn't spend any money on this album, as there are other artists making much better music right now. This fell very short for me. Expand

An amazing album, her best so far! Miss Hudson did a great job making this masterpiece, it's really cool to see how Katy became a pop star (one of the most relevant by the way) and Witnnes mark her career with quality perfection.

This album is a let down, compared to Perry's previous works, especially her previous album, which was definitely her best work. There are some solid songs, however, like "Power", "Bigger Than Me" and "Roulette".

Katy Perry continues to flop every album she releases. I think the karma she sings about has hit her back. The album sounds so garbage that I don't even know why Katy released this album. It definitely ruined her career as if she still has one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Witness is far from KP's best work, but there's something about her new persona that is oddly charismatic. This album is mostly filler, but there are several standout tracks. Power, Deja Vu and Miss You More are standout tracks (and potential singles). While the album moves along pretty quickly, the album peaks and plummets from track 9, "Chained to the Rhythm." The latter half of the album is much cloudier and, frankly more boring, than the former half. The Mike WiLL Made-It-produced Tsunami is, sadly, a forgettable ballad. The album closer, "Into Me You See" recalls Teenage Dream-era Katy, in a bad way, and includes a horrendous play on words ("intimacy"). The Target Deluxe version offers two wonderful tracks that easily could have replaced the title track and other filler. If KP wanted to keep the theme of "purposeful pop", perhaps it would have been wise to include 2016's Rise. Expand

Witness is the follow-up to Perry's Prism, an album with great music and many hits but this time Miss Perry failed to deliver any of two mentioned. The production is overall disappointing, there's a HUGE difference between songs chosen as singles and the ones that are simply album tracks, and not even the singles are extraordinary. Katy Perry has had a history of inconsistent albums with scant bordering-on-impressive standouts that are intimidated and overshadowed by the most trite lyricism and tired melodies in the rest of her songs.

From this concept, three songs stand out, which have become singles, but Chained to the Rhythm fits more into the very constituent part of the album. A lot of radio hits, in my opinion. My Top 3 songs from the album: Roulette, Chained to the Rhythm and Bigger Than Me.
After the release of the album there were a lot of mixed and negative reviews, many didn't understand Perry. But I really like the album. There are a lot of personal thoughts and feelings, although this album doesn't have a "personal" character. There are more dance songs than Katy does. But they are a bit of a different genre, for the experiment a separate thanks.

This is his second best album, the songs are very good such as Deja Vu, Power, Witness, etc. Some are stuffing songs that were unnecessary and the lyrics of the songs are very good another thing is that they did not know how to choose the singles well.

So, Witness is a good pop album, but it has a lot of flaws. The singles shouldn't be there, some songs are clearly fillers, and I think it's too long. But it's the more mature Katy Perry's album so far.

This's not an album, this is a mini ep with 2 songs.
Bon appétit is one and another is swish swish I loved those songs.
Pendulum is another good song but it doesn't work.

This album is meh, not so good but not so bad, it's regular. The first songs are the best the other ones not so much. I think Tsunami, Mind Maze and Power are the worst, the ballads are so simple and boring, and the best ones are Deja vu, Roulette and Bigger than Me

Katy Perry has reinvented herself, mixing fun tones like 'Bon Appétit' with political issues and personal reflections. Witness is an album that is strange to the first impression, but bringing an experimentalism and singing with spirit, the Californian girl shows its genius.

It's a really nice album . It has inspiring lyrics and good rhythm, but it might seem repetitive. Katy has improved vocally. Such a great comeback. "Power" "Pendulum" "Swish Swish" and "Witness" are my favorites. However, I expected a little more, PRISM is still her best album.

Katy Perry made an entirely clever album, unlike Lorde. The songs themselves combine, bring subtleties, have an important meaning in the moment of our politics, not only ours as the one of all the countries. Katy was right on this album as in everyone she's ever done. Congratulations!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Katy Perry has once again made a Huge POP Masterpiece! Witness is a rich album that contains such an inspiring songs like Mind Maze, Bigger Than Me and Chained To The Rhythm. She explored different sonorities for the first time and I got astonished with the results I heard! Pendulum for example makes you fell as if you were watching a typical American choir concert from the movies, Tsunami really takes you to the beach with those wave sounds in the background and Power got me completely blown away with its magnificent quality of production! The chorus are still very catchy and stick in your mind like all Katy Perry’s hits does, most of the lyrics are as deep as previously seen on PRISM! My top five songs are: 1- Power 2-Bon Appetit 3-Hey Hey Hey 4-Miss You More 5-Deja Vu
I'm very proud of her evolution musically and hope she would always maintain this quality. With Witness Katy showed us how capable she is of making something extraordinary beyond every body's expectations, we've got powerful hits, deep ballads and great messages being spread d thought this album. It's impossible to unlike her art references and creativity on the songs! It is definitely the best album that's been out this year! Katy Perry has her own artistic identity, she's always original on her lyrics and brought something new to the pop music that might be never forgotten! If you haven't listened to it yet, I'll strongly recommend you to do it!!

While there are some good bops on Katy Perry's fourth album, a lot of songs sound like they are fillers to me. There is no common thread between the songs. It's a bit messy.

However, Katy really wanted to change her sound with this album and I applaud her for that. I feel like this album production is very good compared to the lyrics. My top tracks are Swish Swish, Witness and Hey

Flat, incoherent, messy, aimless. What is the message here? There is nothing uniquely "Katy Perry" about any of this. I understand growing and changing as an artist with age, but this just sounds like much of the pointless garbage on the radio. This does nothing to seperate her from her peers. And sonically? It's just incredibly annoying.

The album starts off strong for 10 seconds... and quickly dies in an explosion of overbloated production and annoying vocal effects. The whistling was annoying, the synth reminded me of the 80s (I hate being reminded of the 80s), and the lyrics overall were particularly uninspiring, let alone the fact that they were seemingly random at many points, especially during Swish Swish (Shellfish? Sheep? WTF?) Just because lyrics rhyme doesn't mean that the lyrics themselves are good... swish swish bish... I can't believe it took 7 people to come up with that "catchy chorus." Nicki's appearance in this album was incredibly annoying and somewhat laughable (The way she says the word despise is especially chuckleworthy.) Anyway, the reason as to why I didn't give it a 0, was simply because of the intrigue I still have over the first ten seconds of this album. I can't believe I listened to the whole thing.

    Final Score: 1/10

If you were offended by my review, I'm sorry I didn't enjoy the album as much as you did, and I'm happy that you managed to listen through the whole entire album in joy when I couldn't even stand the chorus of what was supposed to be the best song on the whole entire album... so congrats on not being as negative as me, and have a nice day. :)

The mixed feelings of quality the record gives us make this trip utterly confusing, and underdeveloped. Another issue is that the album omits faux emotions, like on "Miss You More" and "Into Me You See", with fake sentimentality and overemotional poetry. Katy pretty much sums up her album on one of the lead singles, "Deja Vu". She sings in a restrained way, about everything being the same almost ironically, because she too needs to try something new. I honestly don't know what the critics want from Katy Perry.

When she set out to release genuinely pop albums, she did it well above average, and was criticized for that, because the critics wanted something a bit more innovative, they wanted her to get out of the comfort zone. As if the complete change of rock from "One Of The Boys" to the summer pop of "Teenage Dream" was not enough.

In addition, they begged something personal, as if making a personal album was a rule and not a proposal.

So with "Witness," Katy Perry completely ran away from the pop that she presented before and made a most personal album than ever ... and the "specialized" critics continues to come up with precepts to judge him. "Witness" is a genuine album, not only for a political purpose, but also with the duty to present to the world another side of Katy Perry. With risky beats, powerful lyrics and vocals quite different from what we used to hear from Katy, this album is perhaps the most misunderstood triumph in pop history. Maybe Katy Perry is the most misunderstood pop star of current times.

I think the critics would feel better if the album had that simple four-chord combination that repeats itself and a blasé lyrics about ex-boyfriends.

For example, what the hell is roulette? What on earth is that song trying to convey? nothing, there's nothing to take away from that apart from the fact that it's generic pop music designed the full out the album, Hey Hey Hey, written by SIX PEOPLE, it took SIX PEOPLE to write that garbage.

There are bands out there who make far better music then this, it's not worth anybodies time or attention. 5 stars cause perry has a great voice and the production is pretty darn good (mind you generic at the same time) but as far as music goes this is just trash

First off, I'd like to say that this album is disappointing in some ways and pleasantly surprising in others. For one, there aren't as many show-stopping, standout tracks like Prism and Teenage Dream had. Most of the songs are growers though, and I've come to like this album the more I listen to it. I'd say the overall quality is a lot more consistent. The highs aren't quite as high, but the lows aren't as low either. Another thing I like is that the music is slightly more adventurous than what she's done before. The beats are nice and modern, and the production is solid without sounding overdone. The songs are also a bit more bittersweet and less happy than normal, which is definitely something I like.

And just because Katy holds a special place in my heart, I'll do a track-by-track review:

    1. Witness - Really solid opener, and one of the better songs on the album. The piano is a nice touch.
    2. Hey Hey Hey - Not my favorite, but a passable song nevertheless.
    3. Roulette - Another solid song, and one of the more traditional Katy Perry songs on the album.
    4. Swish Swish - The first time I heard this, I thought it was fine but nothing special. It's grown on me a lot though, and it's cool to see Katy doing something more dance-oriented.
    5. Deja Vu - One of my favorite tracks on the album. Very danceable and catchy, this should definitely be a single.
    6. Power - Very musically different from what I'd normally expect. Not one of my favorites, but a perfectly fine, soulful song in its own right.
    7. Mind Maze - Probably the weirdest song on the album. It's sort of jarring, especially the auto-tune, although it's started growing on me. I think it's interesting, for sure.
    8. Miss You More - A bland ballad, but not the worst ballad on the album.
    9. Chained to the Rhythm - This song has grown on me a lot. I like the chord progression and like that it gives me some Daft Punk vibes, although it does sound like the kind of song that was written by 20 people. Still one of the more upbeat songs on the album.
    10. Tsunami - I love this song. It's a slow burner, and the bass riff is just perfect. Probably not the most radio friendly song, but that's why it's so great. It sounds a lot more musically mature than what we normally get from her.
    11. Bon Appetit - A relatively simple song, but the beat is the best I've heard in 2017. Seriously, the production on this song is perfection.
    12. Bigger Than Me - A somewhat generic pop song, but it's catchy and has a nice melody, so I'm fine with it.
    13. Save As Draft - Another lame, bland ballad. Reminds me of Britney Spears' "Email My Heart".
    14. Pendulum - Upbeat and happy, but not really my cup of tea.
    15. Into Me You See - A third bland ballad! She should have cut this album off at 12 tracks and we wouldn't have missed out on anything.

Overall score: 6.8, rounding up to 7

But what do reviews matter when you’ve already made millions off songs like “Firework,” “Dark Horse,” and “I Kissed A Girl?” I have no idea; but seeing the especially awful reviews for her latest release, Witness, I was intrigued. I figured the critics and fans were reacting more to her new Trash-Bag-Miley-Cyrus look than her new music, but boy was I wrong. Dead wrong.

The album gets off to a decent enough start with “Witness,” a song whose dance music isn’t anything special, but its chorus is catchy enough for me to be singing it loud enough in my head that I forget my order at Burger King. “Hey Hey Hey” is more memorable with its growling synths, creating a unique contrast to Perry’s sweet voice. The track finds the singer doing a bit of bragging- her money situation is ridiculous, she’s strong and independent. Basically, she’s a bad **** She continues the braggadocios delivery “Swish Swish," a confirmed Taylor Swift diss track. Overall, Perry takes some nice shots (Yeezy would be proud) and Nicki Minaj closes out the track in typical Nicki Minaj fashion- flexing on haters while switching deliveries/voices several times over. Is the track dumb? Yes. Is it a lot of fun? Absolutely.

    Then the album completely dies.

In classic pop album fashion, this record is front loaded like a mother. After the first four songs, all the effort the album puts in to convey Perry’s strength as an independent woman is deconstructed by a series of sappy love songs that harp on unrequited romance and “what if” scenarios. The sparkling turd in this pile is “Miss You More.” It dials up the cringe to 11 as Perry exclaims in the chorus, “I missed you more than I loved you.” Everyone’s experienced puppy love before, but no one wants to talk about it, let alone hear a 3 minute song about it.

In addition to the smh-love-songs, there’s some “party anthems” (“Chained To The Rhythm”) that are about as energetic as Chris Cornell’s corpse and sex songs that fail to titillate (“Bon Appétit”). Not to forget, all of this “fresh” material is delivered to you, the listener, courtesy of some lukewarm club music.

If you really want to get some joy out of this album, listen to it for the hilariously awful metaphors/analogies that litter the album’s lyrics. Let’s check some out-

You’ve got me spread like a buffet (“Bon Appétit”)
I take a deep breath and save as draft (“Save as Draft”)
You came in like a sailor with your heart that anchored me (“Into Me You See”)
Life’s a pendulum/It all comes back around (“Pendulum”)
    The entirety of “Tsunami”

There's loads more, but I'd like to close this out with one of my own-

Reviewing Katy Perry is like trying to make love to a Hoover Vacuum Cleaner, it sucks.

It’s a real shame Witness has come out as a bit of a disjointed mess, as there’s a decent record somewhere in there, but it gets lost in the fog of endless guest productions and co-writes that miss the point entirely.
