Jan 2, 2019Dummy Boy would be better if it was worse. 6ix9ine doesn’t show any sign of knowing how to write a complete song, let alone curate a whole album. But he’s also too unimaginative to write anything so jaw-droppingly awful that it needs to be heard to be believed.
-
Dec 18, 2018Dummy Boy is unlikely to disappoint 6ix9ine fans, but for everyone else, there's little to back up the hype and controversy associated with the self-professed "King of New York."
-
Dec 6, 2018DUMMY BOY is an insufferable 13-track farrago of anything from rock riffs to calypso drums, all pinned by 6ix9ine’s obsessive use of the “n” word, along with every other negative trope found in the gangsta rap of the early Noughties. ... Avoid.
-
Dec 5, 2018His blend of garish Day-Glo net art and brawling homage to the glory years of DMX and Onyx may be a commercially effective millennial update of Rotten Apple thug rap. But aesthetically, his distinct lack of lyrical talent and annoyingly hyperactive presence often undermines the whole thing.
-
Dec 4, 2018The production on Dummy Boy is amazing. Tay Keith, Scott Storch, Murda Beatz and Ronny J among others lace 6 with some beats that match his "wavy" sound and style perfectly. The tracks are heavy on the bottom and have lots of room for 6 to flex his sing-song melodic flow.
-
Dec 4, 2018What Dummy Boy lacks in maturity and creativity it makes up for in energy and vitriol.
-
Dec 4, 2018Although songs like “BEBE” kindly pay tribute to 6ix9ine’s Puerto Rican roots, his rapping quickly proves to be tolerable in tiny, almost microscopic doses, while the album closer “DUMMY” is like a carbon copy of the homogenized sound currently infiltrating mainstream rap.
-
Dec 3, 2018Energetic but scattered.
-
Dec 3, 2018If your first language is, say, Russian or Chinese, then you might enjoy the musicality of some of 6ix9ine’s verses even though they blur together. Unfortunately, Dummy Boy is not improved with a knowledge of English, and indeed that might be an obstacle to enjoying the album.
-
Dec 3, 2018Dummy Boy is one of the most unlistenable rap records of this year. ... He’s delivered a bland project. Often, it’s as though he took what was in his drafts folder and released it as a “studio album.”
-
Dec 3, 2018Mostly the standard fare of Tekashi throwing sounds and flows at the wall, praying something sticks.
