Guitarist John Hill... generates enough raw power to mask the shortcomings of any old lead vocalist. Fortunately for this Denver foursome, it has one of the most exciting singers around today. [#68, p.91]
  2. Filter
    82
It's retro-pop in the way that makes roller-skating suddenly less ironic and just plain fun. [#15, p.103]
  3. Under The Radar
    80
Another disc of rocking power-pop hits. [#10, p.110]
  4. Entertainment Weekly
    75
Smiley-smart vocals, gung ho guitar, beaming hooks. [24 Jun 2005, p.165]
  5. While there's a definite sense of in-studio spontaneity to Electrified, the album's only significant flaw is that the songs sound restrained in their current form.
  6. In the process of refining their sound, Dressy Bessy appear to have sacrificed a little too much of their uniqueness.
  7. Q Magazine
    70
There's nothing here that's especially revolutionary, but Dressy Bessy... do power pop better than most. [Sep 2005, p.115]
  8. The overall tone of the album, and the fact that they have made two records in a row like it, might be enough to chase away many of the band's original fans for good, but those who stick around will be treated to an album of fine, fizzy adult punk-pop with a mean streak and a broken heart.
  9. On the whole Electrified offers too much syrup.
  10. Electrified's rife with cardboard power chord progressions that should've been buried with all the other Nirvana aftermath opportunists.
  11. Alternative Press
    60
Electrified certainly isn't the most original album you'll hear this year, but crunchy pop like this doesn't have to work very hard to impress the indie set. [Jul 2005, p.176]
  12. Uncut
    60
A second cousin to New Pornographers' Electric Version. [Jul 2005, p.103]
  13. Blender
    60
Happily, [their] dogged consistency works in their favor. [Jul 2005, p.117]
  14. This style shift does give Ealom some more flexibility in her range. But if the chipper, twee sounds of "I Found Out" and "Jenny Come On" were your initial draws to Dressy Bessy, then you might find the more punky direction a bit confounding.
  15. New Musical Express (NME)
    60
    DB's spry, Breeders-style way of recasting '60s and '70s rawk is enough to rescue it--and us--from tedium. [23 Jul 2005, p.50]
  16. Dressy Bessy is a one-trick pony, and twelve songs of the same fuzzed-out retro-rock riffs are too much for one person to take at once.
  17. The album as a whole isn't interesting enough lyrically or musically to hold itself together.

Wow, I really don't understand why they're not huge. The album is great and they put on an amazing live show.

You keep waiting for that gorgeous pop song they've always been able to show on previous albums
