In lesser hands, the sheer number of collaborations on I Remember could have spelled trouble, but AlunaGeorge are no ordinary band. They are so much better than that.

It occasionally loses focus, but overall the decision to open up has worked wonders.

Bolder and with increased confidence, I Remember sounds more succinct and complete than 2013 debut ‘Body Music’.

The most effective songs--the dragging slow jam "My Blood," the sweetly chiming ballad "Mediator," and the woozy and bittersweet title track--are the least cluttered, from the comparatively sparse production to the judicious lack of guest vocalists.

It cribs largely from dancehall, but stops short of adopting any of that form’s humidity; these diaphanous tracks are a long stream of cool appraisal.

The uncluttered production always feels reasonably on-trend, but too often these songs just aren’t catchy or inventive enough to be truly memorable. The result is another pretty decent album that doesn’t quite ignite.

AlunaGeorge have always been smooth, but here they sound soft, the glitches debugged, their quirks edited out.

I really like Body Music, and while I Remember is a bit more poppy, it's still got all the elements that made their first album so enjoyable. There are not as many standout tracks on I Remember, but there are also no bad songs either. Everything is either good or great, so this is a very enjoyable album from start to finish. Expand
