Jun 19, 2018The more introspective stance that Gang Gang Dance take in this instance reveals a much richer and more impressive depth. The relentless energy has given way to a form of meditation, that reveals a sense of peace and tranquility. The exploration that the band performs in this instance, crazy as it might seem, is more substantial and covers more ground, resulting in a monumental release.

Jun 25, 2018While Kazuashita might not be a completely perfect album, it is as close as you can get to perfect when it comes to fulfilling the potential of the album as an artistic concept. Every piece fits together, it has a message without pontificating, and it’s absolutely crucial to experience it all at once.

The WireAug 8, 2018As comebacks go the album has an almost blissful assurance. It positively levitates with calm, like someone back from a long trip who knows they have all the time in the world to tell you about their new guru. [Sep 2018, p.54]
-
Jun 25, 2018Some of the band's finest music yet, to say that Kazuashita was worth the wait is an understatement; it's a timely, necessary expression of hope that also feels like a union of the new and the eternal.
-
Jun 21, 2018Gang Gang Dance’s sixth album, just like their previous work, emphasises how there’s a vast world beyond our closest surroundings.
-
Jun 20, 2018All the elements that have made for their most enjoyable material are still here, and the band shows they are just as capable as they have always been on captivating listeners.
-
Jun 18, 2018The tracks all flow into each other, giving the album the feel of a particularly eclectic DJ mix, and overall it proves to be a fascinating, varied, atmospheric release that was thoroughly worth the wait.
-
Jun 25, 2018Kazuashita ends up saccharine and pompous, like music designed to soundtrack bad wildlife documentaries. Thankfully, these missteps are rare on an album that proves Gang Gang Dance aren’t so much of the moment as of a different moment, an alternative and rather more pleasant one.
-
Jun 28, 2018All in all, this is a good album. While it has some magnificent moments, it doesn't quite come together enough to make a for a completely stellar ride.
-
UncutJun 18, 2018Their strongest and most coherent records. [Jul 2018, p.28]
-
Jun 22, 2018Kazuashita is impeccably made, but it could stand a little more chaos.
-
Jun 25, 2018It is hard not to hear Bougatsos refracted through the lens of Grimes, an artist who radically expanded on GGD’s commercial potential. In comparison, Bougatsos now comes up a little ephemeral.
-
Jun 22, 2018The songs themselves are invariably linked through a series of euphoric crossovers and trippy interludes that create a strong sense of life within the music.
-
Jun 22, 2018Whether its dreamy palette is progressive or pacifying, Kazuashita undoubtedly brings moments of beautiful respite.
-
MojoJun 18, 2018Just when it seems it's an invitation to drift away, Kazuashita sags the attention, demands vigilance; a record of the world, rather than out of it. [Jul 2018, p.95]
-
Q MagazineJun 18, 2018It's liable to tail off in trippier moments, but Kazuashita is magical enough to reward its hyperactive ambition. [Summer 2018, p.109]

Jul 9, 2018Kazuashita wants what psychedelics want of human brains: transcendence. But its fleetingness masks any sort of completion. Frantic impulses come from afar, a random sphere of floating values, frames of signification.
-
Jun 25, 2018Kazuashita, then, is the barely audible sigh that follows when you crack open the vacuum-sealed bag that preserved GGD in that hiatus--everything’s there, but crisply folded and flat.
