It possesses a rare balance of pop-inflected songwriting and dense atmospherics that hold each other in check rather than clashing (props to producers Chris Walla and Francois Tetaz).

Lo Moon isn’t afraid to step outside of its comfort zone, and it’s a big reason why the album feels like such a distinct triumph over the genre’s familiar tendencies and tropes.

These kinds of lyrics paint pictures that can be simultaneously morose and inspiring, avoiding the stock repetition of 2010's mainstream love songs by imbuing them with the bold creativity and vicissitude of songwriting in the '80s and early '90s. All in all, Lo Moon is an impressive debut.

Lo Moon is a daring and complex debut album scored through with emotional tumult and a nuanced understanding of the groups that have inspired them.

The atmosphere of Lo Moon, which melds gloom with instrumental experimentation and a welcome pop sensibility, has gifted listeners with a record that stands apart. It's got a glow all its own.

It is impossible to deny the craftsmanship with which the trio have sculpted the opening salvo of 'This Is It' and 'Loveless'. ... Sadly his talent for building epic, emotive crescendos does not overshadow his shortcomings as a lyricist.

Take the sophistication out of sophisti-pop, and Lo Moon is just another L.A. indie R&B act who tries to bring us a higher love but can’t take things much further beyond bed and bath.

However, the trio perfectly maintains a balance between retro sound and the relevance of modern sound. Vocal harmonies, changing tempo, unexpected twists and turns, emotional outbursts of drums and synthesizers, which are replaced by rather quiet intimate moments and mysterious polyphony - all this sounds quite cinematic and intriguing.

We can safely say that the group Lo Moon quite deservedly occupied its side of the Moon.
