  1. Genuinely soulful and unhindered by a slavish devotion to traditional Americana, The Opera Circuit is a tour de force for Hinson.
  2. The deep-voiced young troubadour has constructed some songs worthy of his blue moods and obsession with the old-timey.

His second album stands out from the singer-songwriter crowd. [15 Dec 2006, p.85]
  4. Mojo

By turns, raw, sophisticated and sublime. [Sep 2006, p.104]
  5. Uncut

Though his voice is as lugubrious as ever, there is more light and shade than before. [Sep 2006, p.95]
  6. Micah P. Hinson and the Opera Circuit is a pure expression of turmoil, a cathartic release through art that skillfully avoids self-obsessed mawkishness.
  7. A quietly compelling album, this will please not only fans of Hinson's other solo work, but those who were introduced to him through the Earlies and the Late Cord as well.
  8. Under The Radar

Micah P. Hinson and the Opera Circuit may be Hinson’s most emotionally affecting work to date. [#15]
  9. Micah P. Hinson and the Opera Circuit covers more ground and isn't as unilaterally melancholy as we're used to, though the record contains some of his best work.

    A dark, beautiful collection. [26 Aug 2006, p.43]
  11. Micah P. Hinson And The Opera Circuit is a very unique album that can be as warm and familiar as it can be chilling and alien.
  12. At times enjoyable, at other times somewhat bland, And The Opera Circuit is a somewhat inconsistent follow-up release from the young artist.
  13. Not every song hits its mark, and Hinson's monotone often grates, but as dark as his recovery might have been, Opera Circuit doesn't mope or whine.
  14. Hinson is blessed with a rich, warm voice that lifts him above most of his faux-redneck competitors, and he can arrange a song gloriously.

[The songs] sound like woozy shanties for seasick barflies. [Nov 2006, p.100]
  16. Paste Magazine
    60
A record enveloping enough to be therapeutic but vital enough to be inspiring. [Dec 2006, p.89]
  17. It’s not that The Opera Circuit doesn’t sound pleasant, or that his lyrics aren’t solid; they just don’t hit me as being all that moving or even mildly engaging.
  18. Alternative Press

It seems like Hinson puts far more energy into conveying some sense of backwoods authenticity than writing songs that inspire any type of real emotion. [Oct 2006, p.200]
  19. Q Magazine

Makes for exhausting listening. [Sep 2006, p.108]
