Perhaps as a direct result of I-Sound's presence, Music is a Hungry Ghost is a looser, more abstract affair than previous efforts.
-
Not content to rely on the same old drum machine patterns and tired beats, TRR and I-Sound have concocted a vast sonic brew that blends elements of hip-hop, jazz and techno into a seriously stinging cocktail.
-
Alternative PressTo Rococo Rot don't need more bounce in their already metronomic step, so I-Sound shows the group on this collaboration how to add a bit of swagger. [#155, p.86]
-
Harping on in their own innocuous, oblivious manner, like the shy cousin of Squarepusher the four music makers have succeeded in creating a selfishly inviting album of great beauty and delicacy.

-

-
"Ghost" marks the welcome debut of a more body-oriented brand of user-friendly experimentation - crisp and cool, yet dionysian at the same time.
-
The group relaxes its rigid Krautrock stance and lets seductive dub rhythms and elastic hip-hop beats infiltrate the main.
-
The WireSadly much of Music Is A Hungry Ghost is marred by a pebbledash of clicks and glitches -- that already overused signifier of au courant production. [#207, p.87]

-
DerekR.Aug 6, 2001Soothing yet abstract. A can't miss for down tempo/ ambient music fans. Just have an open mind, and you will truly enjoy this album.
