    You can hear the size of her thoughts and desires on this truly stunning record, this genuine opera. They are as big as the universe and everything in it.

    Origin of the Alimonies is an astonishing piece of work that leaves the listener breathless and euphoric. It is haunting, stunning in its ambition and scope, and a rapturous piece of art. It is beautiful, brutal and bruising. It is challenging, pretentious and uncompromisingly complex. It’s ace.

    Origin of the Alimonies is an opera, complete with three acts, an overture and an interlude. Sonically, it picks up on past Liturgy motifs: minimalism, black metal, classical music and electronic beats. The scope and scale, however, is incredibly vast.

    My favorite metal album from 2020.

    Obviously ''purists'' will hate its approach, but it's irrelevant nonetheless.

    I had a very difficult time getting into Liturgy, but I decided to give more of their albums a chance, and this one is probably my favoriteI had a very difficult time getting into Liturgy, but I decided to give more of their albums a chance, and this one is probably my favorite and the one I'm most likely to recommend. It's probably the most approachable since it has an impressive variety of musical styling to bring this sense of primordial conflict; creation, destruction, and reconstruction in equal measure. It's also much shorter than most of the other albums, and given how heavy Liturgy albums tend to weigh on the attention span, I feel like this album is the best way to see if Liturgy is something you can vibe with.… Expand
