Dec 2, 2015Melnyk’s titles are often fitting: Parasol sounds like sunshades spinning in the daylight, and Ripples in a Water Scene like ripples in a water scene; the crushingly sombre The Pool of Memories might well induce a pool of tears.... Melnyk’s truly defining quality is surely the constant tingle that his music leaves in your heart.
-
Dec 2, 2015This is music that has gloriously outgrown its unfamiliar origins and deserves to be embraced wholeheartedly.
-
Dec 15, 2015If Melnyk’s technique hasn’t changed, he is breaking new conceptual ground.

MojoDec 11, 2015An album of great beauty and quiet power. [Jan 2016, p.91]

Dec 2, 2015For the first time--a stunned silence at the intensity and pace of these cascading arpeggios (19.5 notes per hand each second, apparently, and the world record), these rhythms within rhythms that envelop and sustain. Boy, do they sustain.
-
Dec 2, 2015Indeed, Melnyk's quick fingers imbue his music with depth that, if explored, reveals harmonies within harmonies.
-
Dec 4, 2015In execution, it's not too different from his previous works for the label. The music is busy and technique-intensive, but tuneful and meditative.
-
The WireDec 16, 2015Melnyk could use a bit more genuine mystery and less self-importance. [Dec 2015, p.52]
-
Dec 2, 2015In all, Rivers and Streams confirms that Melnyk is quite right to make the big claims of himself which he does.

Jan 4, 2016The music lacks the meditative quality of similar works like those by Philip Glass. In place of this, tracks like ‘Sunshimmers’ and ‘The Amazon: The Highlands’ produce a warmness that makes the album an agreeable experience, an experience that does not ensnare the listener’s attention.

Jan 27, 2016Although at times it underwhelms, at its best this album absolutely convinces and leaves no doubt as to the ability of its creator.
