An experimental, genre-less and extremely noisy sound to exceptional results. Schlagenheim is beyond weird. Schlagenheim is a legitimate one of a kind record. Schlagenheim is a masterpiece.

Schlagenheim may possess some semblance of the aforementioned genres, alongside others like kraut and yes, even jazz, but pining for some rigid label is futile, because Schlagenheim is one of the most unique rock records released this year and maybe of the past five years.

There is a sort of pure, youthful exuberance to what black midi are making, but their experimentation also carries with it a sense of mission.

An arresting, astonishing experience, Schlagenheim is a vital, stunning, puzzling album, one that demands to be heard.

There’s so much going on here that nothing ever gets bogged down enough to fees indulgent or wanky; most songs clock in at under five minutes, and even the longer ones seem to go by in a blip, as if pranking our iPhone-addled attention spans. Indeed, there’s humor here.

All four members of Black Midi are extremely young, wildly competent, knowledgeable about all sorts of music (classical, jazz, free improv, etc.) and willing to go way out on a limb. Schlagenheim is a really exciting start, which could lead in any number of directions.

As a whole, Schlagenheim is an imperfect, intriguing debut: behind the overheated prose lurks a young, self-conscious band who clearly aren’t as fully formed as the hype suggests, who are still capable of misdirecting their undoubted talent and haven’t quite clicked that intelligence is best worn lightly in the balance between art and heart. But it’s still early days.

Masterclass in crafting of sounds, if you got the chance to check out the stems, what you see is layers and layers of sound that give this warm (or cold if its necessary) wave of sound that moves with a purpose. Never ending energy from an album that contains no bad moments at all. One of the best albums of rock and guitar of the decade. Like many other "harsh" albums It rewards the patient. Expand

I love the sense of style of this album. It's very explosive, impactful and the distorted guitars add to it in a nice way. The lyrics are really dark at places. You may say that the lyrics on track "bmbmbm", and I would argue with that statement. Because, as the song goes from what I feel, the meaning of the lyrics comes from obeyig a beautiful woman, to questioning your own existence and purpose in this world. I'm really looking forward to their new projects. I really enjoyed this one. Expand

Excellently crafted, constantly surprising, subdued and cerebral or unobtainable and bombastic.

The powerhouse guitar playingIt took me longer than it should have to realize this alvums brilliance. It sounds so diffrent and genreless. The powerhouse guitar playing and drums make this a stellar "drone guitar black metal "output. The lyrics never matter because they don't need to. They are secondary to the music. They sound eager and jaded with nilhism despite the youthful energy. I liked this album alot. Favourites:bmbmbm,953,near dt Mi Expand
