s, Supervision is some of Jackson's most consistent work, and hearing her have this much fun growing into her music -- and herself -- is infectious.

There’s no doubt Jackson is gradually carving out a left-of-centre niche, with a retro sound that is cleverly evocative and curiously idiosyncratic rather than just derivative.

Now a certified pop vet, La Roux returns with a work that translates the hard-earned lessons of the past decade into another collection of radio-ready dance-pop whose best tracks manage to sound timeless and topical at the same time. It’s an eminently listenable album, and her best shot in years at recapturing some of those triumphs for herself.

There are sublime moments - International Women Of Leisure, for instance, and Do You Feel, a homage to first ladies of disco songwriting such as Evelyn King and Gwen Guthrie - but other tracks, though taut and tight, become repetitive. [Mar 2020, p.92]

Supervision is at times frustrating – an avoidable misstep here, an overindulgence there. But it also contains some of La Roux’s best music to date, music that’s witty, danceable and endearing all in one.

It’s all largely inoffensive and wholly listenable. Which is fine, but we’ve come to expect more from La Roux.

Overall, there's a real sense that La Roux is on autopilot, resulting in a ‘samey’ sound that struggles to hold the listener’s attention.

It's one of the first times that I hear such an empty and soulless album even with all of this emotion and assertive intention that "Supervision" has. Produced by Dan Carey and Elly Jackson, the album is constructed with a series of loops that immediately dries any attractiveness in their music. This Groovy and Synth Pop rarely has space for any essence and there's rarely anything important in their lyrics. The only attractiveness is in the energy that shares the album, but there is not an actual transcendence. "Supervision" is the weird friend that tells bad poetry and have fun doing it, you don't really want to meet them, but you kind of get entertained when you watch them from afar.
