With strong lyricism, impeccable production, and a consistent tracklist-only "Hydromatic" and "Poppin'" lack the rest of the LP's highlights-DJ Quik has turned in another gem sure to keep lowrider stereos and headphones alike busy throughout the summer and beyond.

The Book of David is a pleasure-first listening experience, and Quik deploys each of his tricks with a showman's flair.

In contrast to the self-aware grandeur and show of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Quik's done much the same thing he did in '91: put out a great rap record, plain and simple.

Lyrically, he's back to his old tricks--shitting on haters, shouting out himself, somehow rhyming "orange" and having "diamonds like kablooie."

He rationalizes the darkness of Trauma with the breeze and bounce of 1998's Rhythmalism, and the results are often downright hilarious. [Jun 2011, p.60]

Thankfully we finally have some more new Quik in our lives in the form of his eighth solo album, The Book of David, an album that finds the legendary DJ going back to his roots, and creating some nice music in the process.

The Book of David isn't Quik's finest effort; an album reportedly done in quick fashion, doesn't truly live up to Quik standards. However, it still holds its own in the current field.
