Gately's soft vocal melodies audible through the layers of madness, leading you to points of strange beauty and lyrical wonder. [Jan 2017, p.97]

The results can veer wildly from the alluring to the downright alarming. Yet Gately's ear for melody holds it all together. [Dec 2016, p.106]

Despite their EDM club appeal and pop sensibility, seven strikingly dynamic and expansive maximalist compositions are still locked in a very private headspace, a kind of solitude that contains multitudes.

Complex, involved and engaging, her music’s exploratory inclinations are tempered with a distinctive melodic charm.

The zany highs--and even the not-so-zany lows--of Color conjure a fantastic parallel world, lightyears away from any other fighting contender, and still unforgettable in private lives

Color certainly announces Katie Gately as a force to be reckoned with, a true auteur with a singular--and highly listenable--vision.

Gately is capable of a more consistent release, but as a starting point, Color leaves you itching to see where inevitable maturity will take her approach.

Color is an album of two halves, with gloomier hues on side two. [Nov 2016, p.53]

Color is, first, a thing of intrigue and frenzy, as deserving of your undivided attention as it is confounding mixed with almost any other sense perception; second, it’s an exercise with a few robust rewards.

Gately describes her method as a question: "How much can I add before it just sounds too crazy. What's the most obnoxious thing I can make the song do?" With Color, she's overshot.

Unlike "Color" a real sense of emotion overtakes the listener and creates an atmosphere that spans from the inevitability of death to the hopefulness of the future. The amazing interconnection of sounds to the beauty of the music goes far beyond her usual experimental digital magic. "Bracer" the centerpiece of this album, is a modern classic. RIP Patricia Kennedy, your memorial is worthy. Full Review »
