It's his best original work by some yards. [Aug 2021, p.84]

Exit Wounds isn’t radically different from the band’s other albums. It remains true to the formula the band have always embraced. The lyrics paint vivid pictures and are easy to sing. The melodies are instantly familiar, which is part of what makes them so endearing. And if it isn’t broke, why fix it?

Continues to make some of the sweetest and most self-assured AOR-inflected power-pop going. [Aug 2021, p.82]

On Exit Wounds, the Wallflowers finally turn into the classic rock band they always ached to be.

The LP's muscular hooks and unpretentious formalism provide Dylan with the ideal setting for his assured wordplay and signature stoicism. [Aug 2021, p.35]

The sound is leaner, a little less rough around the edges and solidly in sync as well.

A stripped-down guitar-forward record that still wraps the music in a solid pop sound.

Most of the album sounds immaculately produced, of course, the result of him basing his operations in Nashville with a group of seasoned musicians. But Dylan remains mostly anonymous throughout, letting others shine while he adds some occasionally poignant touches.

Can evoke an Americana-tinged Warren Zevon, gruff but tender, with the best songs featuring Shelby Lynne's empathetic vocals. [Jul/Aug 2021, p.133]

There is a song or two that feel like leftovers from his last solo record ("Wrong End Of The Spear"), but a much more solid album overall than their previous one, "Glad All Over". The sound here is more like the country-rock/Americana sound from "Bringing Down The Horse" in places. "Who's That Man" is a highlight, just a no holds barred rocker with a killer hook. Good to have this band back in the saddle! Full Review »

Breach (2000) may be more distinctive, but something about this collection of songs is addictive. It's a diverse range of styles and encompasses the best aspects of previous records, while eliminating their drawbacks. From the wonderful and plaintive "Maybe Your Heart's Not In It No More" to the high voltage rocker "Who's That Man"; this album caught me by surprise, and it's a record many people are going to love!
