'Legends Never Die' is poetic, prophetic and poignant.

It's due to the effortless nature of his rhythm and rhyme let the words float with direction, but it's not until you properly hone in on the syllables do you find the map unravelling, and the bigger picture coming to life that helps the poison sink in with the trap beats.

Sonically, compared with Juice WRLD’s early SoundCloud material, “Legends Never Die,” is positively lush — not over-produced, but comparatively elaborately arranged.

The gripping parts of Legends Never Die come when Juice is speaking from the heart.

The album shines brightest when Juice stops navel-gazing, when he tempers his fatalism with a sense of hope and togetherness, the yang to his depressive yin.

Songs like “Wishing Well” carry on the things that made him popular — a catchy melody and hook, AutoTuned lyrics, tales of depression and drug use. All of Juice WRLD’s trademarks can be found here.

Barely 21, Juice WRLD was only just coming into his own as a man and artist, his talent still taking shape as he matured. Legends Never Die reveals a glum ringleader still finding himself.

However, this album shows the haunting reality of what Juice went through making his legacy unforgettable and upsetting for the fact that the music industry truly lost a genuine and brilliant artist. As compared to Death Race for Love and Goodbye & Good Riddance, the tracks on this album move Juice forward as an artist rather than cementing the sound he was known for as the previous two albums did. Thankfully, his record label didn't rush this album as XXXTentacion's did, and this feels well rounded, complete, and something that Jarad would have released by himself, rather than the collection of Garage Band snippets that X's label pushed out. The first third of the album contains much lighter sounds and lyrics that are fairly typical of Juice WRLD's music, with songs such as Righteous and Conversations standing out from the rest of the tracks. The middle third of the album is mostly dedicated to singles, the standouts of which are Life's a Mess and Come & Go, although it also features the most aggressive songs on the album as well, with Hate the Other Side and Tell Me U Luv Me abandoning the dreamy sound that was present on the album up until that point. The final third of the album feels the most experimental, as Up Up & Away and Man of the Year sound very different to anything that Juice released before. The final third also features songs that are what one would expect from a Juice WRLD album. with Wishing Well and Fighting Demons the standout tracks. Breaking up these sections are a haunting collection of interludes where Juice seemingly speaks from beyond the grave, and through the release he constantly drops lyrics that show he knew that taking pills would eventually take his life, however there wasn't anything he could do about it. Throughout Legends Never Die, Juice demonstrates how he grew as an artist before his tragic and untimely passing in December. Unfortunately, he never got the ability to mature even more, and there will probably never be a Juice album demonstrating this level of growth from him again, even if he has thousands of unreleased songs. I rate Legends Never Die an 8/10, and I would give it a higher score if some of the more filler songs such as I Want It and Blood on my Jeans weren't included and were instead replaced with more fitting tracks. Juice WRLD has a long and extensive discography, and the growth present in his sound from the days of All Girls are the Same and Lucid Dreams is staggering. He will go down as an extremely influential artist, and his status will only grow as his record label releases more of his work, provided it is polished and not rushed. Expand
