Of course, even the weaker songs have their dance-floor potential. Petras is, above all else, a pure fan of pop music and the feeling it exudes. But in chasing her new status as the type of pop star who has Top 40 potential, she abandoned the freakishly forward-thinking personality that built her a base to begin with. Here, the beast has been tamed.

While it’s admirable that Petras is willing to show her vulnerable side on the midtempo 808 ballad “Thousand Pieces” and the bubbly “Minute,” Feed the Beast plays it safe compared to Petras’s audacious Slut Pop EP.

With Feed The Beast she has neither progressed past that nor become a lost cause.

Although songs like “King of Hearts,” a pummeling Eurodance stomper, or “Castle in the Sky,” another pummeling Eurodance stomper, might allude to urgency in their lyrics and music, they still feel totally anemic and bereft of passion.

If only the music on her major label debut album was as interesting and innovative as its author is, or even as diverting as Unholy.

During the last few years, Kim Petras has tried to get rid of the "promising singer to rise" label, but this work doesn't exactly help her to show her true personality or to define herself as an artist, as it's full of generic songs that could belong to any current white pop singer like Ava Max, Rita Ora or Zara Larsson. Within “Feed the Beast” we find dancing and fun songs but as a whole we aren't facing a memorable work that will be part of the lists of the best of the year. Full Review »

I will be listening to that song often. Full Review »

This record feels like (even though I hate saying it) selling out, with the recent chart success it’s such an obvious bit for major public attention than focusing on the music and letting the success come. I will give credit for including coconuts which is a great song. Also for the BANKS collab where, Kim has pushed BANKS the experiment a bit compared to her usual style. Full Review »
