It's just an album of bona fide, polished, often odd, perfect pop-rock. [27 Sep 2014, p.52]

He used his left brain--logic--to access his right brain--emotion--to create what might not be the best Weezer album, but most definitely is the perfect Weezer album, at least right now.

Everything Will Be Alright in the End doesn’t just transport us to Weezer’s younger days--it ushers us into their future. And for the first time in a while, it’s looking pretty bright.

Weezer has reclaimed what it does best.

While there’s a back-to-basics glee in the album’s geeky power-chord pop tracks, a largely instrumental three-song closing suite is neatly epic, triggering Pink Floyd chills.

A feeling of acceptance underpins Everything Will Be Alright in the End: there's a sense that Weezer made another record of massive, hooky rock not only because that's what the fans want but because they know it's what they do best.

There are a couple of mildly sludgy moments.... But otherwise, it's a perfectly calibrated record. [Nov 2014, p.113]

All three subsets [songs about fatherhood, girls and the audience] contain songs that are profoundly odd and reliably catchy.

In short, it sounds like Weezer. Those magic chord changes, the wiry guitar licks, Rivers Cuomo’s awkward, faltering vocals--these may be brand new songs, but they’re all so immediately familiar that, as the title may suggest, they create one almighty aural comfort blanket.

While the record is first and foremost concerned with winning back the faithful, in its most abandon-free moments Everything forgets it’s a return-to-roots album and takes some exciting leaps.

Rivers' lyrics are just as bad as they've always been, the band's sense of pop-song structure is still the backbone of every track, but that doesn't matter when everyone is having fun.

Weezer’s big “return” is just fine.

Speaking of the riffs, there's sadly nothing here as brilliant as any of the 12 tracks on Blue, but in terms of tone and style the new material will slot nicely into a live setting.

Ultimately, Everything Will Be Alright in the End is not a perfect album, but then again it really didn’t need to be.
  17. It’s no Pinkerton, but Weezer, finally, are back on track.

In their best work, unashamed flaws and vulnerability become a secret weapon, even when it's slathered in squealing bait for a future Guitar Hero release like it is on "Lonely Girl," which finds the band finally casting off its slacker straitjacket.

Is ninth record ‘Everything Will Be Alright In The End’ in the same league as 1994’s Blue Album or its follow up ‘Pinkerton’? Not quite, but it gives it a good go.

The killer hooks of Weezer's '90s zenith aren't here, but Cuomo's endearingly dorky lyrics still are. [6 Oct 2014, p.62]

Everything could be accepted for what it is and be held to a more manageable standard: how good does a Weezer album have to be before it can be considered actually good? As it turns out, about this good.

Everything will likely add a few tunes to the pile of singalongs, but likely won't change anyone's mind about what the band's greatest albums still are.
  23. It is not deserving of a Hurley-level bashing, and it’s too aware to be Pinkerton. It’s an album they could have made 10 years ago, but it’s also one that feels moderately current.

There isn’t a single moment on EWBAITE when I wasn’t second guessing my feelings, and that makes it interesting to me, if not necessarily as interesting as some of their other post-reunion records.

So while Cuomo might be frustratingly stuck in himself, Everything Will Be Alright In The End shows that he’s taking the first trepidatious steps into an earnest reflection on what it’s taken to be the man he’s become.

It feels like a coherent album as opposed to a loose collection of songs. There are stumbles, but given the band's history, they feel minor.

In spite of its moments of charm, it’s a far cry from being either a fun retreat into 20 years ago, nor is it any indication that Weezer's reputation will be in better health 20 years from now.

It has its charms.... but the naivety of their debut remains elusive. [Nov 2014, p.84]

A handful of tracks strewn with cheesy metaphors shows the impersonality that mars Cuomo's post-Pinkerton songwriting, despite some redeeming musical qualities that reaffirm Weezer as a purveyor of feedback and fuzz (particularly "Cleopatra," a great rock single if you ignore the lyrics).
  30. 58
In finding their way back to what works, it too often sounds rehashed to make it a true return to form the band has been yearning to find.

A pleasant, but ultimately unspectacular adventure.
  32. 50
Overall this record feels like a pocket in time and the breeze of nostalgia is welcome in parts but is wholly unsatisfying.

There are likeable enough moments: Cuomo has such an instinctive way with melody that he won’t ever release an album without some saving graces. But, for the most part, this is no improvement on Weezer’s medicore output of the past decade.

All of the songs (except maybe Da Vinci) are songs only Weezer can make. There is a sincerity here that has not been apparent in their previous couple of releases.
