All swelling organs, Teutonic strings and scathing political diatribes delivered in her winsome, insouciant vocal style.

Silencio! really soars when Sadier rails loudly against the injustices of our austerity era, as on Auscultation To The Nation. [Aug 2012, p.109]

Musically, songs are altogether pleasant, ranging from languid to downright danceable, with undercurrents of the German art pop that influenced much of the 'Lab's sound.

An album that begins as a one-woman cabaret show discussing humanity's past and future and remains the work of a singular voice, one that recognizes that silence is just as vital as music.

Sadier's glorious voice could easily cover-up a multitude of sins, but it doesn't have to on Silencio because this is a great collection of songs.

Sadier's faith in the replenishing properties of silence has reactivated her production line of perfect pop miniatures. [Jul 2012, p.62]

Mostly, this is spry, melodic, and totally charming. [Aug 2012, p.79]

Sadier pulls this off 11 more times, crafting music that makes politics sound like the sexiest thing in the world.

It's as though she's taken the lesson of The Trip--that you can get over the most extreme pain--and used it to come back to her musical home.

Like Jack Nicholson's character in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest attempting to tear the sink out of the wall, Sadier certainly gives it hell, and it's a downright cathartic listen.

This record does indeed feel like a natural continuation of Sadier's previous body of work.

Lush and fully rendered in a way that recalls Stereolab's records; in fact, you'll be hard-pressed to find much to separate what's on Silencio from the band's latter-day output or to differentiate her latest batch of vocals from the thought-provoking lyrics she's delivered throughout her career.

It's a bright, pretty album, so much so that it may surprise when the lyrics come into focus and reveal Sadier's concerns.

Sometimes lying on the wood floor or recording an album of pretty retro-pop songs is all you can do, and sometimes it's enough.

Contrary to the urgency of the title, Silencio! is more intermission than showstopper. [No.89, p.59]

From the simplicity in songs like "Lightning Thunderbolt" to the momentary pause before the tempo jump of "The Rule of the Game," the lyrical content of the album depends on the musicality, which itself attests for the album's strongest moments.

The impeccable cool of Sadier's approach freezes out political engagement in lieu of a brand of fashionable leftism to match the sofa.

There's nothing Sadier's fans won't enjoy about this record. But that doesn't mean there's much to love.

Thoughtful, tuneful, exquisitely melancholy, ever slightly off centre-- [Silencio] is, indeed, a welcome haven. [Sep 2012, p.86]

Silencio is Sadier's most politically charged album yet, and it creeps out its message with a familiar-but-refreshed style.

These songs are all, for the most part, perfectly adequate, but we've heard better and stronger songs from Sadier before. It's not so much a sucker punch as a blunt disappointment from an artist who we know can do so much better.
