800 B.C.

800 B.C. - Fivio Foreign

April 24, 2020
Brooklyn drill rapper [RoviLink="MN"]Fivio Foreign[/RoviLink]'s first viral hit was 2019's "Big Drip," a minimal but explosive display of relentless energy and aggression. The song was catchy in its intensity, and became the calling card for the rapper's style of one after another lyrical gut punches. On the eight-song mixtape [RoviLink="MW"]800 B.C.[/RoviLink], the song appears twice, once in its original form and again as a remix featuring [RoviLink="MN"]Quavo[/RoviLink] and [RoviLink="MN"]Lil Baby[/RoviLink]. Much of the rest of the project takes cues from "Big Drip's" demonic energy, with almost every track molding harsh drill drums, intense flows, and intimidating ad-libs into compact presentations of fury and swagger. Though the running time doesn't even clock in at 25 minutes, [RoviLink="MW"]800 B.C.[/RoviLink] packs in enough energy to keep things captivating. In addition to the guest stars on the "Big Drip" remix, [RoviLink="MN"]Meek Mill[/RoviLink] shows up for the devilish "Demons & Goblins" and [RoviLink="MN"]Lil Tjay[/RoviLink] contributes to the relatively more melodic "Ambition." ~ Fred Thomas

Ho, Why is You Here?

Ho, Why is You Here? - Flo Milli

July 24, 2020
Alabama rapper [RoviLink="MN"]Flo Milli[/RoviLink] broke through to mainstream success when her 2018 single "Beef Flomix" went viral. The song's mix of bouncy instrumental hooks and relentless, attitude-heavy lyrics put [RoviLink="MN"]Flo Milli[/RoviLink] in the same camp as other brash, confident rap superstars like [RoviLink="MN"]Cardi B[/RoviLink], [RoviLink="MN"]City Girls[/RoviLink], and [RoviLink="MN"]Megan Thee Stallion[/RoviLink]. The response was enough to give successive singles tens of millions of streams as well. [RoviLink="MN"]Flo Milli[/RoviLink]'s debut mixtape [RoviLink="MW"]Ho, Why Is You Here?[/RoviLink] collects the best of her standout singles -- "Weak," "In the Party," "Like That Bitch," and the anthem that started it all, "Beef Flomix" -- as well as several previously unreleased tracks for a brief but powerful explosion of swagger and intensity. The singles already established as hits are unsurprisingly some of the best material on the project, with "Weak" standing out as one of the more inventive tunes. The song samples the [RoviLink="MN"]SWV[/RoviLink] song of the same name as [RoviLink="MN"]Flo Milli[/RoviLink] lists off all the men pursuing her romantically and shrugs them off with a smirk. The R&B-informed instrumental and front-and-center vocals are a nice detour from the rest of the mixtape's nonstop flexing over trappy pop beats, but it's just one of the many infectious moments that make [RoviLink="MW"]Ho, Why Is You Here?[/RoviLink] so engaging and so fun. ~ Fred Thomas
