AftërLyfe - Yeat
February 24, 2023
[RoviLink="MN"]Yeat[/RoviLink] continues his upward ascent with [RoviLink="MW"]AftërLyfe[/RoviLink], his third full-length and first to hit the Top Five of the Billboard 200. The increasingly ubiquitous rapper is acknowledged as one of the main figures of rage, a trap offshoot heavy on distortion and EDM-influenced synthesizers. [RoviLink="MN"]Yeat[/RoviLink] seems to be drowning in bass during tracks like the overwhelming "Rav3 p4rty," and the bleary "Now," both of which feature pitch-adjusted alter egos of himself. The only true guest on the album is recent rage convert [RoviLink="MN"]YoungBoy Never Broke Again[/RoviLink], who appears on the song "Shmunk." Otherwise, [RoviLink="MN"]Yeat[/RoviLink]'s established sonic trademarks are all in place: sinister bells, a plethora of different Auto-Tuned vocal styles, and borderline nonsensical lyrics involving self-created slang. [RoviLink="MN"]Yeat[/RoviLink] is clearly a unique personality, but like his other albums, which typically have at least 20 tracks, [RoviLink="MW"]AftërLyfe[/RoviLink] can be quite a demanding listen. ~ Paul Simpson
